Missions

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.—Acts 1:8 (KJV).

Pilgrim Covenant Church is committed to extending beyond the four walls of our building to be involved as a catalyst of God’s high ideals in the world around us. This is being realized through active involvement in both local and world missions. We send our own members into the mission field—near and afar—and provide other forms of support through funding and donations.

Each year, Pilgrim Covenant Church provides opportunities for members to participate in short-term mission trips. Both youth and adults are welcome. The list below includes some of our past and current mission activities:

  • We are selling grocery store gift cards again! This is a great way to help support our youth! Buy gift cards for the stores where you shop or give as gifts! We have Geisslers, Stop & Shop, and Big Y grocery store cards.  A percentage of the card value goes to our Youth Funds, and it doesn’t cost the purchaser anything extra to shop.  Please see Susan Johnson, Laura Ray or Martha Johnson to purchase cards.
  • The Hartford Project—From June 26-30, 2011, fourteen PCC youths and three adults joined more than 350 other students serving the poor in Hartford, CT. This latest mission followed another successful mission of THP in 2010 that had a strong impact on the nine youths who participated. See the letter from our Youth Pastor and Youth Ministries Chair describing their experience.
    •  June 24th – 26th: The Hartford Project local mission. More details to follow soon.
  • KICY Care Package:  ECC radio station KICY broadcasts the Gospel into Alaska and Russia. PCC Mission and Outreach sponsors the collection and sending of care packages to the KICY staff to help make the dark northern winter a little brighter and sweeter for our ministry partners.
  • Springfield Rescue Mission—Hope Totes (collection of hygiene items), collections of warm clothes, coats, blankets, food, printer cartridges.
    • In March, Missions and Outreach will again be encouraging donations of hygiene items to the Springfield Rescue Mission’s Hope Totes program.  Purple collection bags will be passed out in early March along with details about what items to put in the bags. These bags are passed out to Springfield’s homeless around Eastertime, to help them “clean up on the outside to feel better on the inside.”  We pray that the needy people that we touch are nourished in body and spirit, and that God will multiply the blessings in their lives.
  • The Big Day of Serving:  On October 15th, 2001, our Senior High Youth participated in a one-day mission in Danbury, CT with many other youth groups to help completely transform a neighborhood.
  • Puerto Rico—From July 10-16, 2011, twenty PCC youths and seven adults were blessed to serve in the neighborhood of Belgica in Ponce, Puerto Rico. See the letter from our Youth Pastor and Youth Ministries Chair describing their experience.
  • Honduras Mission—In July 2011, members of Pilgrim Covenant Church joined others from different parts of the USA on a mission to Tegucigalpa for one week of life-changing experiences. Our mission was two-fold: reaching out to Hondurans to spread the message of God’s love; and bringing medical care to their neighborhoods.
  • New England Seafarer’s Missioneach year, a team of people visit Boston in service to cruise ship workers, assisting them to send messages to loved ones via phone, email, and hand-written letters.
  • Residents Encounter Christ Prison Ministryyear round prison ministry, small group from Pilgrim Covenant Church and many other churches minister to inmates at the jail at Ludlow, MA.
  • The Haworth Mission to Japan—PCC provides funding and extra donations to support the Haworths. The Haworths have been in Japan for 25 years. Jay Haworth was a pastor of Pilgrim Covenant Church from 1976 to 1983.
